Details on the QLD Regulations on Pool Fencing in North Lakes
In 2010, Queensland changed its standard on pool fencing in North Lakes and all throughout the state. The new standard is incredibly strict and specific, and fences that don’t meet the requirements must be altered. This has prompted many pool owners to go ahead and replace old fences with newer ones that meet all the required standards.
Queensland Pool Fencing Laws
According to the new laws, every swimming pool must be surrounded on all four sides by a compliant barrier (a building does not count as one side). This barrier must be minimum 1200 mm off the ground, with an additional non-climbable zone of 900 mm measured in an 180-degree arc from the top of the barrier. In this non-climbable zone, there can be no objects measuring more than 10 mm in depth and width. Any and all gates must be self-closing and self-latching. Every pool must also be registered with the Pool Safety Council, and Licensed Private Swimming Pool Inspectors will ensure that each and every pool is compliant.
